Park Information
Springdale Farm is a modern agricultural education center located within Northampton Park and operated by Heritage Christian Services. It is open to the public and offers meaningful working opportunities and community engagement for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This includes more than 40 men and women who help care for the animals and the grounds, assist with group tours and greet visitors. Springdale Farm welcomes nearly 40,000 guests annually, which include families, pre-school groups, students, older adults and other interest groups. The demonstration farm and day program combination offer opportunities to visitors to learn about the workings of a farm and appreciate the contributions of people with disabilities. For more information visit Springdale Farms Website.
Farm History
In 1876, Springdale Farm was purchased by James Adams to operate primarily as a fruit farm. Adam’s family remained in ownership for nearly a century, with son Myron taking over and remaining prosperous until an ice storm in the 1930’s damaged many of the fruit bearing trees. It was then that Myron converted Springdale into a dairy farm, as well as planting a variety of crops like wheat, oats, corn, peas, string beans and potatoes. In 1960, the Adams family sold Springdale to another farmer and shortly afterwards, Springdale Farm was purchased by Monroe County.
