Beginning Monday, January 8, 2024, all visitors entering the Monroe County Office Building, 39 West Main Street, will be required to undergo screening before entering the building. Bags will be subject to search and visitors will need to pass through metal detectors to gain entry.
This change better aligns security procedures at the County Office Building with federal guidelines for security at government buildings, many of which are already in place at City Hall, the Hall of Justice, the Kenneth B. Keating Federal Building and other municipal buildings throughout the county.
Signs posted on the County Office Building doors facing West Main Street will direct visitors to enter through doors on Irving Place, located at the southeast corner of the facility. This entrance is handicap accessible and will be staffed during business hours.
Employees and elected officials who have identification badges that grant them access to the building will still be able to enter the COB from the West Main Street entrance.
For convenience, Monroe County provides residents the opportunity to complete many transactions without an in-person visit to the County Office Building or other facilities. Those services include paying property taxes and researching properties, applying for Civil Service exams and jobs, registering to vote or looking up voter information, viewing public bids and requests for proposals, applying for public benefits, and submitting Freedom of Information Law requests.
