County Executive Adam Bello highlighted the success of the JEDS program and thanked graduates for their service
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello addressed the 2023 graduating class of probation peace officers today, recognizing them as the unsung heroes of public safety. Their work holds individuals accountable for their actions while helping them successfully rejoin the community.
“Probation officers are at the forefront of our law enforcement agencies’ efforts to build good community relationships and engage with equity to all populations across our community,” said County Executive Bello. “Thank you to the Monroe County Probation Community Corrections Department and our Probation Instructors for the work they put in to make our newly trained Peace Officers ready to serve Monroe and surrounding counties.”
Since the academy’s last graduation, Monroe County launched the JEDS initiative. JEDS has succeeded in reducing the rate of recidivism for program participants. Monroe County restructured the Probation Department to include a new Special Operations Division assigned to the highest risk offenders and will work with them to ensure compliance with court orders.
Monroe County had the first probation department in the State of New York, dating back to around 1901. Currently, our probation department provides oversight for more than 4,000 adult offenders in Monroe County.
Monroe County welcomes these new graduates and is appreciative of their service!
