Monroe County collection sites on pause as focus turns to delivery.
Due to the overwhelming amount of community support, County Executive Adam Bello announced today the County will no longer collect donations at our DMV sites and at the County Office Building, as local Ukrainian leaders work on shipping previously received donations to support Ukrainian relief efforts.
“The outpouring of support by Monroe County residents and our emergency response agencies is overwhelming —the effort now turns to delivering what the community has already donated,” said County Executive Bello. “Thank you to our first responders who provided life-saving equipment, and our residents who contributed clothes, medical supplies, hygiene products and more. Your support exemplifies what Monroe County does best – helping those in need.”
Donations to date include:
-
Five ambulances (one from Monroe Ambulance, two from AMR, and two from Finger Lakes Ambulance)
-
More than 150 sets of firefighting turnout gear
-
More than 100 donation barrels filled with sleeping bags, socks, underwear, toothbrushes and other hygiene products
-
More than $10,000 worth of first-aid and medical supplies
“I am beyond grateful but thoroughly unsurprised at the generosity, warmth and compassion our community has shown our Ukrainian brothers and sisters during these incredibly difficult times,” said Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo. “You stepped up to answer the call and our actions will impact thousands of lives. We will remain vigilant and steadfast in our commitment to support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in the days, weeks, months and years ahead.”
“Thank you to County Executive Bello, our first responders and our neighbors in Monroe County for these generous donations,” said Volodymyr Pavyluk, presdent of RocMaidan, the local organization overseeing humanitarian aid to Ukraine. “Thanks to your generosity, our loved ones in Ukraine will get access to life-saving equipment and supplies as they fight an unwarranted and horrific war.”
