Monroe County Announces Prescription Meds Drop-Off Event
ROCHESTER, NY – Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and the Department of Environmental Services are reminding residents of a prescription medicine and pharmaceutical waste drop-off event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 25 at the Wegmans, 3701 Mt. Read Blvd., Greece.
“These drop-off events are critical to ensuring potentially addictive and harmful medications and other unwanted pharmaceutical items are disposed of safely,” said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. “Thank you to our Department of Environmental Services team, our law enforcement partners and Wegmans for helping make sure these items are kept out of our medicine cabinets and community.”
Acceptable items include:
- Pills and liquid medications
- Prescription medications
- Over-the-counter medications
- Empty medicine bottles
- Ointments and creams
- Sprays and inhalers
- Epipens
- Sharps
- Syringes
Two previous collections this summer have resulted in nearly 1,900 lbs. of pharmaceutical waste and sharps/syringes collected.
Since 2009, Monroe County has partnered with Wegmans Food Markets to host pharmaceutical collections throughout our community. To date, more than 15,000 residents have participated, resulting in 32,700 lbs. of pharmaceutical waste being collected.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Greece Police Department will assist with the collection. No appointment is necessary.
