Research Assistant
Description of Duties
This is an entry-level professional position involving the performance of research and analytical studies and the generation of reports of findings and conclusions. Employees of this class may work for staff agencies or perform staff functions within a department. Work is performed under direct supervision of a higher-ranking employee.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam:
EITHER:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree; OR,
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, plus four (4) years of paid full time or its part time equivalent* experience in a research organization, data processing department, grants center or other agency involving the compilation, organization and analysis of statistical data, or the review and evaluation of procedures, programs and policies; OR,
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
NOTE: Additional education beyond high school may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Anticipated Eligibility – Age and Educational Requirements:
According to Civil Service Law, section 54 which became effective September 4, 2024, applicants who are within 12 months of meeting the minimum age or attaining the minimum educational requirements following the date of examination, may take the civil service exam, but will be restricted from certification until such a time that the minimum age or educational requirements are met. Candidates will be required to provide proof of qualifying education and/or age within 12 months of exam date in order to be eligible for appointment from a certified list.
Special Requirements:
Candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test for employment with Monroe County Government.
