Senior Medical Investigator
Description of Duties
This position in the Office of the Medical Examiner is responsible for supervising and participating in investigations of sudden and/or suspicious deaths. Duties include training new investigative personnel, performing body removals, and handling trace evidence. This position differs from the Medical Investigator by virtue of its supervisory, training and administrative responsibilities. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Investigator or other higher-level staff member and works varied shifts. Wide leeway is allowed for the exercise of independent judgment and on the scene medical/legal decision making. General supervision is exercised over Forensic Attendants, Autopsy Technicians and Medical Investigators.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the Monroe County Department of Public Health and must have served continuously for twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Medical Investigator or Autopsy Technician immediately preceding the date of the written test. Provisional time served immediately before a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited.
A combination of time served in multiple titles sufficient to meet the maximum period of required service is also qualifying.
