Assistant Fire Chief
Description of Duties
This is a supervisory position assisting the Fire Chief in the daily operations and supervision of career and volunteer firefighters. Duties include the administration and delivery of firefighter training programs, and health and safety programs of the Fire District and responding to fire alarms to assist with directing fire scene operations. The Assistant Fire Chief assists in the development of policies, rules, and regulations of the district and acts on behalf of the Fire Chief during absences. Work is reviewed by the Fire Chief through reports and success of the District’s programs and activities. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Fire Chief with wide leeway allowed for independent judgment. General supervision is exercised over subordinate staff.

Barnard, Brighton, Gates, Henrietta and St. Paul Boulevard Fire Districts:
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at one of the agencies listed above and must have served continuously for twelve (12) months holding the position of Battalion Chief or twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Fire Captain immediately preceding the date of the written test. Provisional time served immediately before a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited.
Irondequoit and North Greece Fire Districts:
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at one of the agencies listed above and must have served continuously for twelve (12) months holding the position of Battalion Chief or twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Fire Captain immediately preceding the date of the written test. Provisional time served immediately before a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited. A combination of time served in multiple titles sufficient to meet the maximum period of required service is also qualifying.
Ridge Road Fire District:
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class and must have served continuously for twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Battalion Chief or Fire Captain. Provisional time served immediately before a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited. A combination of time served in multiple titles sufficient to meet the maximum period of required service is also qualifying.
