Paramedic
Description of Duties
This position, located in a village, is responsible for providing emergency first aid and crisis intervention to the general public, working under a variety of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, and various work schedules. The employee provides critical care at the advanced life support level as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (AEMT-P), with medical authority consistent with New York State guidelines. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, a senior-level administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma; PLUS,
Possession of the following:
- Emergency Medical Technician EMT Paramedic (AEMT-P) certificate issued by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate issued by the American Heart Association
5. Certificates of completion from the National Incident Management System (NIMS) for the following:
IS-100.a Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS-100
IS-200.a Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents, ICS-200
IS-700.a National Incident Management System (NIMS), an Introduction
Copies of Certificates must be submitted at time of application.
Anticipated Eligibility – Age and Educational Requirements:
According to Civil Service Law, section 54 which became effective September 4, 2024, applicants who are within 12 months of meeting the minimum age or attaining the minimum educational requirements following the date of examination, may take the civil service exam, but will be restricted from certification until such a time that the minimum age or educational requirements are met. Candidates will be required to provide proof of qualifying education and/or age within 12 months of exam date in order to be eligible for appointment from a certified list.
Special Requirements:
If you are appointed, you will be required to possess an appropriate level Operator’s License issued by New York State, and such license must be maintained in good standing throughout the tenure of employment in the position.
Candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test for employment with Monroe County Government.
