Description of Duties

This position, located in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, is responsible for performing strategic analysis and facilitating the sharing of security information with law enforcement and homeland security partners in preventing, protecting, and responding to crime and terrorism. The employee is part of an investigative operations center which is linked to the Rochester Threat Advisory Committee (ROCTAC) to share resources and analytical results with a diverse group of staff. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a Deputy Sheriff Road Patrol-Sergeant or other higher level staff member.  Supervision is not a responsibility of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam: 

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus:

  1. Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Intelligence Studies, Public Safety Administration or closely related field, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in a law enforcement or public safety setting; OR,
  2. Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree plus possession of a certificate** in a graduate program in Applied Intelligence issued by a college or university; OR,
  3. Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree plus possession of a valid certificate** in a Basic Law Enforcement Intelligence/Crime Analyst Program issued from one of the following associations: International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA), International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA), International Association of Professional Security and Intelligence Analysts (IAPSI) or National Criminal Justice Office Certification Program for Crime Analysts (NCJOCP-CA); OR,
  4. An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.

**Candidates must submit copies of certificates at the time of application.

NOTE: Your degree or graduate certificate must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Anticipated Eligibility – Age and Educational Requirements:

According to Civil Service Law, section 54 which became effective September 4, 2024, applicants who are within 12 months of meeting the minimum age or attaining the minimum educational requirements following the date of examination, may take the civil service exam, but will be restricted from certification until such a time that the minimum age or educational requirements are met. Candidates will be required to provide proof of qualifying education and/or age within 12 months of exam date in order to be eligible for appointment from a certified list.

Special Requirements:

If you are appointed, you will be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
