Environmental Chemist III, prov.
Description of Duties
This is an entry-level position involving the performance of routine chemical and bacteriological analyses of water, food, soil, wastewater, and other sample matrices. Duties are performed in a laboratory, test site, or satellite laboratory. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, a laboratory technician. Supervision of others is not a requirement of this class. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in a natural science** including successful completion of at least twelve (12) semester credit hours*** in Chemistry; OR,
(B) Graduation with an Associate’s degree in a natural science** including successful completion of at least twelve (12) semester credit hours*** in Chemistry, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in laboratory testing, examination, and/or analysis in an environmental laboratory; OR,
(C) Graduation with an Associate's degree or successful completion of at least sixty (60) college semester credit hours***, both of which must include successful completion of at least twelve (12) semester credit hours*** in Chemistry, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (B) above; OR,
(D) An equivalent combination of education*** and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
**Natural science includes Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, and Zoology and their subsets.
