Yard Waste/Compost Give Back
Compost Give Back
ecopark offers leaf compost to Monroe County residents (no businesses, professional landscapers, not-for-profits, etc.) during regular operating hours. The leaves are collected from Rochester streets and may contain litter and contamination from automotive fluids, brake dust, etc. and is not for use in vegetable gardens. Residents should bring their own containers and a shovel.
For City of Rochester residents, the compost is also available through the city's Materials Give Back Program
Yard Waste
With the exception of Christmas Trees, yard waste (leaves, grass and hedge clippings, brush, tree limbs, etc.) is NOT accepted at ecopark. Many municipalities have yard waste collection/drop-off programs. For a fee, private landscaping companies also provide on-demand yard waste pick-up service and may allow residential drop-off. Uncontaminated yard waste is not accepted for disposal at most landfills in New York.
Food Scraps/Other Compostable Material
Food scraps and other compostable materials are NOT accepted at ecopark. There are several private companies in Monroe County that offer residential curbside organics collection as well as drop-offs through local farmer's markets. Check each site's list of acceptable materials, participating locations, and fees.
