Roughly 2,000 Monroe County residents are at risk having their driver’s licenses suspended if vision tests are not received by November 26, 2023
Today, Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo announced that the Greece DMV located at the Mall at Greece Ridge will be open this Friday, November 24, 2023 from 8:30 AM until 12:30 PM, in order to provide another opportunity for residents to take or submit eye exams. There are roughly over 2,000 residents in Monroe County at risk of having their driver’s license suspended for failing to submit a vision test.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, NYSDMV allowed licensees whose IDs expired between March 1, 2020 and August 31, 2021 to renew online by self-certifying their vision. In October, 95,000 New Yorkers received a notice from New York State Department of Motor Vehicles informing them they needed to submit a new vision test to the DMV to avoid having their license suspended on December 1, 2023. Last week, the Monroe County Clerk’s Office followed up, sending out 2,800 letters to residents notifying them their license was in threat of suspension due to non- compliance.
“I am concerned by the significant number of our friends and neighbors who are at risk of having their license suspended. Communications have been sent from the State DMV and County Clerk’s Office, and I implore everyone who recently received a letter to take action. Our team at Monroe County DMVs are here to help, and we will open our Greece DMV to provide an additional opportunity to assist residents with meeting the State’s Sunday deadline,” said County Clerk Jamie Romeo.
Residents can also go to a provider from the DMV Vision Registry to complete an eye exam, which is directly reported to the State without a trip to a local DMV.
Should a driver’s license be suspended due to the vision test deferment, NYSDMV has indicated they will reinstate it 5 days following the submission of a successful eye exam. In order to avoid the lapse, drivers are encouraged to check their status. More information is provided here.
A reminder, all Monroe County Offices are closed for the Thanksgiving holiday for both Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24.
