Senior Legal Secretary I
Description of Duties
This is a senior-level legal secretarial position responsible for providing administrative and secretarial support, performing and overseeing the more complex legal secretarial tasks in a public law office and maintaining the efficiency of all office procedures and case management, guaranteeing reliability and consistency. Duties involve overseeing all cases heard, and reviewing all cases prepared by legal secretaries in a particular area to ensure paperwork is formatted and prepared correctly and conforms to the rules, guidelines, and standards for filing with the Courts. Duties also involve creating and proofreading legal documents, scheduling court depositions, hearings, and meetings, as well as filing and organizing critical documents. This title differs from the lower title, Legal Secretary I, by virtue of supervising or overseeing the work of upper level secretarial staff, ensuring technical legal documents are completed correctly, performing work without instruction, and being accountable for any errors that may occur. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Chief District Attorney Administrator, an attorney or other higher-level staff member. General or lead supervision is exercised over legal secretarial staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at a Monroe County Department and must have served continuously for twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Legal Secretary II immediately preceding the date of the written test. Provisional time served immediately before a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited.
