Eligibility Evaluator
Description of Duties
This position is responsible for determining client eligibility for the Income Eligible Day Care Program. Work involves reviewing applications, interviewing applicants and computing income criteria in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations and policies governing day care assistance programs. The employee reports directly to and works under general supervision of a higher level employee.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent** experience in an office environment that involved either: reviewing applications to determine eligibility; interviewing for placement or eligibility; preparing and disseminating bills; or public contact work.*
*Public contact work is defined as responsibilities having substantial face-to-face or phone communication with adults (age 12+) involving persuasion, teaching, negotiation explaining, counseling, or similar activities that involve periodic confrontation with a client, customer or member or the public. Typical jobs involving substantial public contact are customer service representatives, receptionists, sales people, people providing personal services, interviewers or counselors.
Note: Education beyond the high school level may substitute on a year-for-year basis where experience is lacking.
Anticipated Eligibility – Age and Educational Requirements:
According to Civil Service Law, section 54 which became effective September 4, 2024, applicants who are within 12 months of meeting the minimum age or attaining the minimum educational requirements following the date of examination, may take the civil service exam, but will be restricted from certification until such a time that the minimum age or educational requirements are met. Candidates will be required to provide proof of qualifying education and/or age within 12 months of exam date in order to be eligible for appointment from a certified list.
