Supervisor of Signal Construction, prov.
Description of Duties
This is a supervisory position in the Monroe County Department of Transportation responsible for planning and managing traffic signal construction programs involving the installation and servicing of traffic signals, Intelligence Transportation Systems (ITS), highway lighting, and related equipment. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, in confined spaces and/or at various heights, and involves the operation of vehicles that require a Class *B* Commercial Driver’s License, once the employee has attained the proper license. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, the Chief of Traffic Signal Engineering and Operations or other higher-level staff member. General supervision is exercised over the Electronic Foreman, and other staff performing technical and mechanical work, as well as overseeing contract work. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation with an Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or a closely related field, PLUS four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in traffic signal, highway lighting or ITS project construction AND installation or transportation project management, one (1) year of which must have been in a lead** or supervisory capacity***; OR,
(B) Five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above, one (1) year of which must have been in a lead** or supervisory capacity***; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
**lead supervisory capacity, for the purpose of these minimum qualifications, is defined as someone who participates in and oversees projects, or directs and coordinates the work of others.
***supervisory capacity, for the purposes of these minimum qualifications, involves typical duties such as assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance, maintaining work standards, motivating and developing subordinate employees, implementing procedural changes, increasing efficiency and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale and discipline. The supervision aspects must be an integral part of the job, not incidental or occasional.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New York State Class *D* driver’s license at the time of appointment with the condition of obtaining a valid New York State Class *B* Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
