Description of Duties
This is a technical position involving the laboratory analysis of water, food, soil, wastewater, and other matrices. The employee may work in a laboratory, test site, or satellite laboratory. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a higher-level staff member. This position differs from Environmental Chemist III by virtue of the more complex laboratory tests performed and supervisory responsibility. Supervision is exercised over Environmental Chemist III’s operating laboratory equipment and conducting tests. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in a natural science** including successful completion of at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in Chemistry***, plus three (3) years of paid full time or its part time equivalent experience in laboratory testing, examination, and/or analysis; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a natural science* including successful completion of at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in Chemistry***; plus one (1) year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above; OR,
(C) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry***; OR,
(D) An equivalent combination of education** and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.
**Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications in (A), (B), (D) or (E) above must submit, at the time of application, a student or official copy of a college transcript or itemized list of course work and credits received.
***Natural science includes Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics and Zoology and their subsets.
