Monroe County and MCC Unveil LEED Gold Certification at PAC Center
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and Monroe Community College (MCC) President Dr. Anne M. Kress unveiled the County’s first municipal Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification plaque at MCC’s PAC Center. The U.S. Green Building Council awarded Monroe County the LEED Gold ranking for its sustainable design and construction of the PAC Center.
“Monroe County is proud to unveil its first LEED Gold certified project at the PAC Center at MCC,” said Brooks. “Innovation and collaboration continue to drive our sustainability efforts, and projects like this show how Monroe County is setting the standard for environmentally-friendly construction projects.”
The PAC Center received the Gold Certification for its many sustainable design features: including its optimal energy performance; use of green electricity through renewable sources; and use of recycled building materials. The 56,000 square foot facility also received praise for its innovation in wastewater handling and innovative design.
“Sustainability is an institutional priority at MCC,” said Dr. Kress. “The PAC Center’s LEED Gold ranking exemplifies our commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability, where best practices are identified and become standard. MCC is well prepared to fulfill its mission and support our community’s efforts to meet the environmental, social and economic challenges of the future.”
The PAC Center at MCC also received the “Project of the Year” award from the American Public Works Association. In August 2009, Monroe County and MCC unveiled an LEED Silver certification plaque at the Louis S. and Molly B. Wolk Center for Excellence in Nursing at MCC.
